 Accessible Arts’ Western Sydney project is drawing to an end, but the work this project has inspired is by no means over. Accessible Arts is confident that the arts centres will carry on the work achieved by the Western Sydney project, continueing to create opportunities in the arts for people with disability.  There has been much noise and activity across the Western Sydney region and we want to make sure everyone knows what’s been going on and what’s on offer. We would like to congratulate all arts centres that have taken on board a more inclusive approach to programming.  From April to September 2009, Accessible Arts undertook a scoping study of disability services in Western Sydney to determine their knowledge and use of arts centres in the region. The scoping study involved consulting with the disability sector through conducting a survey and compiling a database of disability service contacts in Western Sydney. Regional meeting for Western Sydney arts centre & cultural development managers to discuss a regional approach towards access and inclusion for people with disability. Meeting was held on Tuesday 24 February 2009 at Blacktown Arts Centre.  In 2009 Accessible Arts will work closely with arts centres and councils across Western Sydney to ensure inclusive and accessible programs and practices. |
