Bankstown :: Music & Drama workshops

byds-rsacMusic and Drama Performance Workshops with Bankstown Youth Development Service and Roselands Sports & Aquatics Club (RSAC). Two exciting performance tutors will be offering a short series of workshops in drama and music, with a performance at the RSAC Presentation Day on 21 June 2009.

When: Wednesday evenings  5- 6.30pm, 20 May – 17 June.

Where: Roselands Sports & Aquatics Club, Clubrooms, 11 Greenfield Parade Bankstown

Cost: $30 per participant for 6 week series.

The Special Access Kit with Mark Shepherd

Ten participants from the Tuesday Night Club in Blacktown took part in a free workshop with musician and facilitator, Mark Shepherd as part of Accessible Arts’ Outreach Program. After a pizza dinner to line the stomach and to warm up the throat the group got hands on with the Special Access Kit to create a mish mash of marvellous music! Stay tuned for next week as the Special Access Kit hits Pecky’s in Prospect!

Tutor profile: Mark Shepherd

Mark worked as as a carer and community educator with The Spastic Centre St Ives for several years.  During his time there he conducted an extensive music program geared towards creating music with people with disabilities.  He uses digital technology, that is, sound beams, a Banana keyboard and music software to make access to the music as inclusive and participatory as possible. He also uses many percussive instruments to involved the classes in soundscape and music creation.  He is currently freelancing as a music facilitator for people with a disability with Sunnyfield disability service and various organisations across Sydney.

Come make a song using the Special Access Kit! Under the guidance of musician, Mark Shepherd, you can make a song using the Soundhouse Special Access Kit™. This is a unique system designed to enable people with disabilities & impairments access the wonderful world of music creation and performance!

WHERE: Blacktown Arts Centre, 72 Flushcombe rd Blacktown
WHEN: Wednesdays commencing July 23rd- September 24th 2008 (10 weeks)
TIME: 10:30-12:30

Access Information: Accessible Parking is available at Blacktown Arts Centre (entry via Campbell st). Accessible public transport is by train or bus to Blacktown. Venue is located 5 minutes from Blacktown station.
