Yes I met them all
Most of them are there thankfully
Except Nina, who was sick ;(
But the show must go on….
Sorry to tell you that

But on a Monday night as such like this….

We are all Busy busy busy
As 2 gigs are coming up from next week and the after
When Sameh arrives to Australia
On the day that I perform of course

And don’t forget that we only got a limited time
Time is running fast and we are all STRESSED! NO!
I know, it starts to panic damn….
But thankfully…we know the 5 minute version.
We knew it that’s going to get easy for me LOL
As it might be the same as the other one…yeah
We just gotta get used to it …
Especially when we only got a limited time…
Oh wells what can we do then?
Well thats tough….

But next time, we’ll do more…
So don’t worry, I’ll be ok.
Things will turn good at the end.

Well anyways
We didn’t get to do it very much
As there were a million things going on…damn
A million of things…

“economy sick” will get remixed for 2010
Stuff is getting burned LOL
And Craig is talkin about the video business
And blah blah blah

While we play around and chill LOL
Just gotta have some patience dear o dear….
And we didn’t even get it started on that yet…. ;(

As things are going like bananas
And are getting outta my way…
But don’t worry, it’ll be on track

And on with the rehearsals…

Because that we know it already
The 5 minute version…
The shorter version I mean by that

We just gone ahead
And did it for a few times to see
how it goes from there look guys
you can’t expect too much from it…

all you can do now is learn from it
and see what you can to work on for next time
so then things can always get better and better yeah

at times to be honest no lie
things can get off-focus at times you see…
which always happens

and i sometimes screw things up too LOL
making those little mistakes
we had to look back and practise at it
yeah just gotta work on it
and learn from what I’ve did wrong
while rehearsing…

you know…yeah it’s what I do
if things do happen
and be open for feedback…and respond…
hopefully that it’ll get better
and thats one thing that I’ve learned on that day.

Well anyways it rained really bad like hell yesterday
Which ain’t that great

But the rehearsals are on, it must continue despite of this weather.
Thankfully that it didn’t dampen our spirits LOL
And yes, we’re all happy as it is.

Now that I’m happy on the day before thanks to my friend
Which made my day, thank God.
Hilly, you made me happy LOL

And is now pumped up for the rehearsals…GREAT!
I’m looking forward to it now
Yes, i’m excited and happy.
I’m ready to work, now let’s go.
We’ll do it, so who cares….

Ok then to begin with…
I had to do a solo routine
We had to select the songs
That will actually suit it…so yeah

Thought about my new song “Joe’s Revolution”
Going to get performed.
But it’s too long for them…
So “the Revolt” then…but then again…
Needs a song that is spoken
So “economy sick” is the one then

Now we had to rehearse that
The live routine for the Accessible Arts’
national Arts Activated Conference
where it all comes together for sure…

We just need to do a few changes
As venues are different
So thats why we have a rehearsal
That way we know what to do
When it all happens yeah….

Janet goes….and I come in
Lights off, had to walk and put da head down
the music started LOL…
until it all came, head up
stand still for the verse
move around when the chorus came
same like the first verse
and same like the first chorus and leave.
To the backstage of course and be alert

My group “First Flight Crew” then came…
I don’t know what will happen then
But we’ll see…

For the moment, in the meantime
thats for those who want to know about it
and for those who are curious
about what i’m doin
i know that u want to know this LOL
thats the lowdown for the powerhouse museum gig

now let’s get on with the rest of the day then
we have the announcements to start
is with Nam, Nina and many more.

And I kept them informed about my friend’s visit to Oz
Just to let them know that they’ll be interviewed
From someone out of Australia.
And this will be for the newspaper based in the UK.
This is something that the First Flight Crew would be looking forward to.
I’ll be giving the news as time goes on.
And I will be in touch with Sam this week for more.

Back to the rehearsals folks
We’re not long to go and life is short which means…
We’ll use all the time that we had…
To make this happen so here we go

From what Britney says…
“Stay VERY focussed and only keep your eye on YOUR prize”
And that’s what everyone should all learn today and tomorrow
Is this. thanks for the quote Damien, you rock
We love you lots Damien

Now let’s bring it on…
Bring on the action…
Keep it going…

We did a shorter version of this
As time was as tight as ever
And there’s a million things are going on
At that time so thats why….

Some of it will have to scrapped unfortunately =(
With Phil…and another perhaps…
So instead we gave everyone a go
And mine is still in there, at least LOL thank God
Which is a relief to me
Thankfully in no tears LOL
It’s still going ahead… =)

remember that this is going to be for the Platform 3 only

we can do an extended performance at least another one

we’re just working on it thats all

just trying to fix things…
well it’s what were doin’ boys

well theres gotta be something

anyways it’s second week…
of this rehearsals
and it’s Monday of course….
finished off those days….

I’ll keep it short and sweet so then
that way you won’t get bored….

yes bitches

Morganics is back from being sick

at least that he got a week to recover….thankfully Is sha Allah!!

And sadly

Dan and Phillip couldn’t make it. ;(
don’t ask me why they couldn’t
it’s just that they got their problems
well that’s fair enough for me to say
enough said of this problems

but let’s get back to work…
back to business
after partied the night away
and spending the night with Tila OMG!!
now let’s get back…

party’s over. rehearsal’s on
like business. treat it like business here
this means serious

ok bitches

unfortunately we couldn’t do rehearsals
in the ACCESSIBLE ARTS HQ
so thats why we have to relocate damn
bt we had to so then we can continue…
so instead we do ours at atyp
at where they do their performances yea
bt thats not too bad lol
as long as we got a place to do so
then thats all what it matters
couldn’t care less anyway….
as long as we got it
which means i don’t care

now back to work…
what we did like what we did last week
was to walk around the room
and find a pose when we had to freeze…
well a hip hop pose is more than enough to say
as long as u can get an idea on what it’s about anyway….

and we had to copy each other
everyone will have a pose to do of course
in their hip hop style of course
and we’ll learn from them.
it’s something that we had to do there of course.

and we’ll make it work, righto….
hard but got to figure this out
now let’s have a go with this
and see how it goes from there…

can’t expect too much from it
you just gotta learn from it
bit by bit, step by step
and gradually, you’ll pick it up
and thats something that i will learn from i guess….

well we use some of the things that we have learnt today
and put it to action i guess^^

we’ll do it with our own performance routines…
just to make things different and exciting
we dont wanna bore our fans…
so thats why we keep ourselves updated and fresh
and thats how you want it. see?

and all of yous out there will go “WOW!”
well thats what u want
as u want it to be “exciting and fresh”
not the same old thing.

and that’s what we’re doing today.
is to make some changes.
and work our way through it all lol ^^ yeah
been working on it yesterday.
and remember the backing routines for the solo parts…
and starting to remember them slowly and slowly
bt dw i’ll get it….eventually^^

well I will tell you more next time…
as time comes by…

First Flight Crew (FFC) will make their first appearance for 2010 at Platform 3, Sydney’s largest hip hop festival. Platform 3 is an annual showcase event that highlights some of Australia’s best DJs, MCs, beat boxers, breakers and graffiti artists all taking place at CarriageWorks contemporary arts centre, Eveleigh.

The eight piece hip hop crew from all over Sydney is managed by Accessible Arts’ Creative Programs Coordinator, Alison Richardson and was formed in 2009 as a result of a series of workshops with Victorian based music organisation Club Wild, further development with Powerhouse Youth Theatre and all under the guidance of hip hop artist, Morganics.

Representing people with disability, the crew perform original material at gigs, fundraisers and public events. They are currently developing their live routine with Morganics for their performance at Platform 3 on Saturday March 20th, 2010.

“Performing at Platform 3 will raise the profile of the First Flight Crew directly within the hip hop community. It is about reaching new audiences outside of the disability sector so they can all experience the talent, spunk and attitude of the First Flighters” says Alison Richardson, Creative Programs Coordinator at Accessible Arts.

FFC will also be performing at Accessible Arts’ national Arts Activated Conference on Friday 26 March 2010 at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney.

To raise their profile and to raise money to support the development of the crew the FFC have designed and printed a limited number of T-shirts that are available for purchase for $20. To order a FFC T-shirt or to find out more about booking the crew to perform contact Alison Richardson, Creative Programs Coordinator tel: 9251 6499 extension 112 or arichardson@aarts.net.au

Bad news is…Morganics is sick from colds, flu and coughing.
Dan and Nina wasn’t here….
Don’t know why they didn’t come, don’t ask….
But anyways ….now let’s get back to this….
Back to the rehearsals folks

Yes I know it was damn hot and exhausting…
After a weekends worth of rain of course.
Which ain’t that nice ;(

No wonder that it made me feel sick …
Having a bad migraine ;(
From an hours trip on a train…
Indeedly annoying ;(
But I managed to slow down though

Had been relaxed….well sort of
Listened to see what what we’re been up to…
These days…most of them had done theirs already
Those video intros, all done and ready to do

This will be out in public very soon
When our band is performing live…
So guys you get to see it first…
When we have our shows…

This will be out soon
So watch out for us…

I have declined to audition for the the
Australia’s Got Talent due to the fact
That I have no plans whatsoever to enter it.
And secondly is that I have no interest whatsoever
So why bother then, if you’re not?

And said that it wasn’t important after all.
Thought that it will be a good experience for some feedback
Or some shit…but I am unable to make it.

But a couple of members of the band did
And the judges said that one of them are awesome…
Blah blah blah
And one of them didn’t shake my mates hand
Which was a bit rude
In which that I’m originally thought

And both of them are now be waiting for their feedback
To see on what actually happen next…
That will be in front of Dannii Minogue then….

So who knows?….We might well as wait for the next one then
So good luck boys for the next one…

Well anyways back to the rehearsals…
Because that Morganics weren’t here at the time
Then Alison will take over today’s rehearsals
For a change of course….

Well we’ll show what Alison has got for us then…
Hey, look she has so much to offer *lol*
Actually what we have to do
Is to do something different from what he does
So that’s why we’re doing it yesterday…

OH OK then here’s what we had to work on
Just to get an idea to see what will work
And what actually won’t…
Now we’re just playing…
With whatever we got to offer
And remember that we are learning
From each other *lol*

What we had to do yesterday
While we do rehearsals
We had to do freezes and such
We had to go around the room…

Do whatever we had to do…
In our expression in reality…
We had to do it like a animal….
When we go late….etc…

And we had to find a place
In which that we froze accordingly.
We had to find a point
In which that we don’t get distracted…
And we had to copy the one that
Did one of those coolest poses…

And we did it for a few times….
Doing the same thing
But a little different.

Before we get to a serious stuff.
Which is our solo routines…
Hard…but not…
I think that we’re starting to get used to it now
I guess^^ Slowly…slowly..slowly

As time goes on….
Instead of doing on what Morgan
Had taught us, we’ll do something different
By been frozen…weird, anyone?^^NOT!!
When were not in the front
As we were the backing dancers also yeah….
We had done it for a few times…
Just to see how it goes from there…
We’ll work it all the way through…
So don’t worry, everyone is doing well.

More from next week folks…
Hope dat Morganics are back….
Well thats for sure LOL

What am i have been up to?
Alright then….I’ll tell you now..of what I’ve done lately so that you know

Well guys there’s sooo much to tell ya so read this…
as this will tell you so much more to offer….

and there’s going to be good news coming and coming…
and new announcements!
happy chappys then

well anyways let’s just go with it then hey?…

1. First Flight Crew! I am now an officially now a member of a band if you didn’t know.

in which that you were surprised with. I will bring you the best in the band for as long as possible
with dancing, hip-hopness to the group so watch out for me ok.

2. The rehearsals for the First Flight Crew!

my lordy lord that freaking rehearsal took me two days…
that freaking kills me lol. yes it’s been tiring and exhausting of course
and expect me to remember all the moves…and the live routine of it of course
just gotta learn where I’ll be going in on stage yes…

that freaking took me ages to remember….lol
well you know when i have to do this…i have to be focused
and not allow any distractions or anything to get on my way
and that’s what I’m doing.

Me and the band, including Morganics with the help of Alison Richardson
had to put a full performance together, the solo bits and the intro dance…in 2 days.

From time to time if needed, we had to show it to the people there
just to see on how we go with this …so then they can see it for themselves
before the world comes. and yes we have to be videotaped just to test ourselves.

And during that time besides just practicing, doing the live routine and so forth.
Surprisingly, one of my friends came in which was named Craig Anderson
came with the video camera and he had to video tape us outside
from where we were rehearsing and closer to the Harbour Bridge
chilling, showing off, tryna be cool you know yeah
and we sometimes have to dance….

And pictures were taken throughout the rehearsals too…
which is another thing that happened…by surprise
i didn’t even know that it was taken there

Look guys with this video that we’ve done there
will be seen during the performances ok
i promise to God that it will appear…when we do some solos…
which would be great as we want to make things better so yeah.

And leading up to the performances in March,
then more and more rehearsals then….STRESS HEY!!

3. Performances my friend!

yes I have thought about performing for Tet (the Vietnamese New Year
this year but then because I wasn’t ready before next week then it had to be scrapped
which is unfortunate ;( sadly to say

BUT THE GOOD NEWS THOUGH YES BITCHES is that I’ll be performing in March with the First Flight Crew
at the Platform 3 (the biggest hip hop festival) in Sydney instead. This shit is going to get even better
as there will be a huge crowd and plus there will be people who will love hip hop

Performances after this day will be revealed next month…

4. Solo Works Revealed.

OK then I have started writing and recording the album over the last Xmas/New Year or so…
which is what I’m starting to do slowly and slowly as i’m getting some ideas
and I’m getting my knowledge from it I guess….

This is something that I want to do…
I have had ideas from some random things I guess^^
Things that I hear from the media
Things that I hear from the voiceless
That sorta inspire me
As I’m trying to work on it

I thought that it’ll be good if we can do something for the voiceless
so then they can listen on what I’ve actually feel at the time
i just feel that the only way to be heard
Is to get some stories and learn from them i guess

I just feel that the media is getting the wrong prospective on this issue
And this was considered as taboo.
you know we werent allowed to talk about it…
and just be saying that “war is good”, “fighting is good”
“fighting just to get rid of taliban for good” and
“maKing Aussie safer from the terrorist attacks and such”
is totally wrong as it doesn’t happen.

Wars were supposed to be good in this county
but then in really that it’s not as you can see…
I just feel that the Western media is lying to us….
And felt that the voiceless couldn’t speak their
freaking side of their story
you see it was worth 2 cents to tell theirs…
to tell their bloody truth…
it’s just what they’re trying to say for real HELLO!!

you know it’s just not fair
that they didn’t get to tell their side of things of course
which is unfortunate as it hasn’t always been reached in time yeah
I just feel that the media here was forgotten
And it’s such a shame if they were forgotten it themselves
Oh How terrible!

So that’s why I taken this terrible truths
Into my hands and wrote songs about it.

This is something that you never hear before EVER!
This is something that nobody does
so that’s why I’m doing it differently
from what they do as they do the same old things
and plus that it’s boring. nobody’s interested anyway.
coz they had no much to worry about it of course.

well anyways I’ll tell you more about it when it all comes…
as I’m you on whats behind it for real…

Update: November 2009 – February 2010

There has been much noise and activity across the Western Sydney region and we want to make sure everyone knows what’s been going on and what’s on offer. We would like to congratulate all arts centres that have taken on board a more inclusive approach to programming. Hopefully by the end of this year Western Sydney will be bursting at the seams with opportunities for everyone of all abilities everywhere. Read on to see what all the major arts centres, councils and disability services have been up to over the last few months.

Blacktown Arts Centre

Louis Black, artist from the Sargent Centre Mural project

Sargent’s Centre Mural

Blacktown Arts Centre (BAC) employed artists David Capra & Tia McIntyre to run workshops for people with a disability to create a mural for the front of the Sargent’s Centre. This centre was officially opened on International Day for People with a Disability and houses four disability services from the Blacktown area: Peckys, Tuesday Night Club, Sunshine Homes and Independent Living for People with a Disability. The groups also created some fabulous artwork for inside the building as well. We look forward to seeing how this partnership between the BAC and the Sargent’s Centre will continue in 2010.

WAPD End of Year Concert

Parramatta Riverside Theatre’s popular Workshops in the Arts for People with a Disability (WAPD) program offers weekly workshops in movement, music, dance and drama for people with disabilities. Towards the end of the fourth term, participants from all classes assemble together to perform an End of Year Concert on the main stage at Parramatta’s Riverside Theatre. The End of Year Concert is an opportunity for the WAPD group to showcase some of their work created in the classes they attended that year. The theme for 2009 concert was ‘Aussie, Aussie Aussie.’ The audience followed tutors Adam Kennedy & Ona Nurkkala as they went on an all singing, all dancing tour through Australia where they saw bush dances, Aussie rules football players, Bondi Lifesavers, Eagle Rockers and the Kelly Gang! There was also a massive Karaoke session where everyone got to belt out their favourite song by an Aussie artist- we had John Farnham, The Wiggles, Kevin Bloody Wilson, Delta, Kylie and loads more.

Farewell… We would also like to say farewell to Adam who committed himself for four years to the WAPD program and I’m sure his enthusiasm, energy and talent will be missed by all the participants.

The play was originally performed as part of the Manly Arts Festival, it was such a huge success that Sunnyfield felt they needed to share the performance with the other Sunnyfield Day Option Program and friends.

International Day of People with a Disability

Fairfield City Council and Fairfield Museum & Gallery organised an event to celebrate International Day of People with Disability. The day began with a welcome to country and the opening of the Visual Abilities exhibition, a collection of works created during the weekly art classes run by Fairfield Museum & Gallery for people with a disability. The art classes are free and led by professional local artist Brenda Eggleton.

Entertainment included the First Flight Crew who performed their latest hip hop tracks with hip hop artist Morganics, as well as a performance by local singer/songwriter Ana Nguyen who performed her song Economy Sick.

Morganics then really got the place rocking with his solo performance and also by getting members of the audience to join him on stage for some beat boxing. By the end of the show everyone in the audience was dancing and there was a great party vibe in the air. After lunch everyone enjoyed lunch joining in the high energy hip hop workshop and trying their hand at chalk art.

Claudia Chidiac, Artistic Director of Powerhouse Youth Theatre, officially launched the interACT Resource Kit, a new online resource for working in integrated performance settings at the IDPWD celebrations at Fairfield Museum & Gallery. The incredible new resource includes workshop plans and case studies from organisations and disability services across regional and metropolitan New South Wales with experience of working in an integrated performance setting. The kit was created to raise awareness of the work going on in the field of integrated performance and to help those who may want to work in the field with tools and techniques to get started. The resource kit was produced by Powerhouse Youth Theatre in partnership with Accessible Arts. http://interactresource.com.au

inter/ACT Integrated School Holiday Workshops

Throughout the second half of 2009 Accessible Arts and Powerhouse Youth Theatre established the interACT schools program. The program aims to integrate young people with a disability into mainstream school holiday performance programs within arts centres across Western Sydney. As a relationship building exercise interACT’s Workshop Coordinator, Matt Stewart coordinated a series of free in school drama workshops which were led by Accessible Arts’ Western Sydney Creative Programs Coordinator, Alison Richardson. Alison also mentored, Digby Webster in how to run the workshops and he assisted her in four of the five participating high schools across South West Sydney.

inter/ACT Street Dance Workshop

As part of inter/ACT a street dance workshop is planned for the 20-22nd of January at PYT for 15-18 year old people with and without a disability.
I Love You by Janet Diane (Creative Development)

I Love You by Janet Diane was one of eleven projects that received the Accessible Arts Small Grants funding as a part of Don’t DIS My ABILITY. Janet was also a member of the PYT’s Mixed Abilities Ensemble and performer in PYT’s major site-specific production, Hard Daze and also works one day in the PYT office.

In 2008 Janet began to write her first performance based on her own real life experiences as a young woman who lives with acquired a disability at 15 years of age. Janet’s performance in this 25-minute piece of moving and poignant theatre was brilliant & everyone is eagerly anticipating it’s major production which, pending funding, will hopefully be not too far into the future.

Beyond Vision

Powerhouse Youth Theatre and Fairfield City Council will be working with a new theatre group that comprises of actors with vision impairments. They will meet fortnightly to learn new skills in performance and create new theatre work. We look forward to hearing more about what this exciting new theatre ensemble gets up to.

They have committed themselves and the organisation fully into including people with a disability in all aspects of the company and have forged strong links with disability services and between young performers and artists within the company. We look forward to continuing our relationship with PYT and the new team from February 2010.

Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre - Q Theatre

The Dream Project

The Q Theatre is currently working on a submission to receive funding for a production based on the stories, hopes and dreams of people perceived to have a disability. The project has been loosely titled The Dream Project. If successful with receiving funding the production will take place in as part of the Q Theatre’s main subscription season in 2011. Accessible Arts’ Alison Richardson was employed by the Q Theatre to undertake a research and community consultation phase, which entailed visiting disability services across Penrith to discuss ideas for the show and experience a free drama workshop. An ‘Acting n Arvo Tea’ workshop was also held which brought together over 20 people who identified as having a disability from all over Sydney to do participate in a drama workshop and also discuss ideas for the show.

Puppetry Workshops

The Q Theatre ran a year of successful workshops in Shadow Puppetry and 3D rod puppetry. The final term saw participants making the bodies for rod puppets and staging A Christmas Carol for Sizzle at Penrith Regional Gallery as part of IDPWD celebrations. The Q Theatre also invited the group to perform at the end of term performance night for Studio Q (the Q Theatre youth and young adults acting training program). The group were a huge hit on the evening getting a 300 strong crowd singing along with them. This integration by the Q Theatre is to be applauded and the staff from the disability services acknowledged for volunteering their time on the evening so that this opportunity was made possible for the people in their care.

AFFORD end of year showcase

Many of the participants of the puppetry workshop have come from the disability service Australian Foundation for Disability (AFFORD). Managers from AFFORD approached the Q Theatre about the possibility of staging their end of year concert within their theatre. This was welcomed by the Q Theatre with open arms and the theatre was given free of charge to the group. Each AFFORD service had devised a short song and/dance with their group which was performed on the stage. This gave each group the valuable experience of performing in a real theatre. We look forward to seeing how this partnership continues in 2010.

The Penrith Regional Gallery (PRG) & The Lewers Bequest hosted the inaugural Sizzle Festival on 2 December 2009 in celebration of International Day for People with Disability. Sizzle was an inclusive, fun, celebratory event that showcased art works made by people with a disability and also short performances from local disability services and the Q Theatre, these ranged from puppetry to Elvis impersonations. The day was well attended and everyone enjoyed being able to dance at the disco, hang out in the beautiful garden area, view the art exhibition and get involved in the performances.

As part of Sizzle, PRG also offered a mentorship to an emerging artist with disability which allowed the chance for one artist to receive professional development in the form of three one hour sessions with practicing contemporary artist Catherine O’Donnell. There was also a free morning workshop for carers of people with a disability giving creative ideas for working with the people they care for.

PRG also continues its Inclusive Education Program through tailored and interactive guided tours, providing access to studio spaces for art making workshops and access to art making workshops.
