Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre & Accessible Arts presents Shadow Puppetry Workshops

Discover the Art of Shadow Puppetry and learn how to make, move and tell a story using a shadow puppets in these hands on practical workshops.  Develop your skills over 10 weeks to create a short piece of theatre to perform on the Q Stage.  And inbuilt literacy component in the workshop series will allow participants the opportunity to increase their literacy levels in a fun and creative way.

WHERE: Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, 597 High St Penrith.
WHEN: Wednesdays commencing 23 July - 24 September 2008 (10 weeks)
TIME: 10:00am - 1:00pm
WHO: 16yrs and over.  Workshops are geared towards people with a disability.
TUTORS: Stephen Carr and Noni Pares have had over 30 years experience in puppetry and have both worked extensively in the theatre industry with adults and children.

Blacktown Arts Centre & Accessible Arts presents the Music Making Workshop Series

Come make a song using the Special Access Kit! Under the guidance of musician, Mark Shepherd, you can make a song using the Soundhouse Special Access Kit™. This is a unique system designed to enable people with disabilities & impairments access the wonderful world of music creation and performance!

Hawkesbury Regional Gallery & Accessible Arts presents the Performance Workshop Series

An exciting series of 10 workshops for people with mild to moderate intellectual and physical disabilities.

WHERE: Hawkesbury Regional Gallery,  1st floor Deerubbin Centre, 300 George St Windsor (vehicle entry via Christie St)
WHEN: Tuesdays commencing July 29th – September 30th 2008 (10 weeks)
TIME: 10-12 noon

Access Information: There is a ramp from the Christie Street entrance and a lift to the gallery level from the basement carpark, George Street entrance and from the Ground Floor of the Library. Call Out :: Access All Art

The Access All Art Community Art Exhibition is open to all community and professional artists living with a disability or living with or recovering from a mental health disorder who currently reside in the Blue Mountains City Council region.

A call for artists to exhibit their work is now open. Emerging, professional and first time artists are all encouraged to apply. Access All Art is being coordinated by Blue Mountains City Council under the umbrella of ArtSpace 2008 in partnership with Katoomba Neighbourhood Centre. 2008 Application Form and Guidelines can be downloaded from the Blue Mountains City Council website. Submission deadline: Friday 6 June 2008 by 5:00pm.

When: Wednesday 11 June to Thursday 19 June. Opening night will be Friday 13 June.
Where:
The exhibition will be held at the Katoomba Civic Centre.
Who:
Artists living with a disability or living with, or recovering from, a mental health disorder, who currently reside in the Blue Mountains City Council region.

Call Out :: Tutor to work in Blacktown or Hawkesbury regions

Accessible Arts Western Sydney is looking for a casual tutor to run weekly workshops at either Blacktown Arts Centre or Hawkesbury Regional Gallery from July- September, 2008. The suitable tutor would have skills in one of the performing arts e.g. music making, movement, dance, performance, theatre making and either experience or the willingness to work with people with a disability.

Tutors local to Blacktown and the Hawkesbury area are strongly encouraged to get in contact.

Mixed Abilities Ensemble

Accessible Arts has partnered up with Powerhouse Youth Theatre in Fairfield to develop a Mixed Abilities Ensemble (MAE) training program. This program grew out of the need for more skills development opportunities in the performing arts for people with a disability and will provide an integrated, supportive and professional environment - the first of its kind! Participants will work with highly experienced tutors, Angela Hill, Aimee Falzon and Claudia Chidiac to develop skills in movement, voice, performance and theatre making. It will be held over the course of 15 weeks on Saturdays at the Cabravale Leisure Centre, Cabramatta and is open to people with and without a disability. Creative Programs and Events for 2008

Hello Folks!! Accessible Arts Western Sydney have just finished planning for the year and would like to let you know about some of the exciting programs we have install for 2008.

Apprenticeship Training Program
Firstly, a brief update on the Apprenticeship Training Program in live production, theatre and events. Now in its second term, the ATP started the year off with a bang - our fantastic tutor Don had the trainees operating coloured lights, smoke machines and sound equipment. We look forward to another action packed term working alongside Julius Media and Parramatta Riverside Theatre. Alison Richardson, Creative Programs Coordinator, is already on the look out for possible job opportunities and further work experience for the trainees and will be encouraging them to get involved as volunteers at several Western Sydney youth events during Youth Week in April of this year. These guys are going to hot property once the course is completed in July!

Open Program
The Open Program will engage three arts centres in Western Sydney to host a ten-week program in three different arts forms.

Kickstart Funding
The Kickstart funding program will enable new arts programs to be developed through a seedling grant made available from Accessible Arts Western Sydney.

Outreach Workshops
A series of Outreach Workshops hopefully using the Special Access Kit and a tutor going into a disability service for a free one off workshop.

Online Resource Kit
An Online Resource Kit will be developed to document part of the Mixed Abilities Ensemble training program and will present a series of case studies of performing arts programs and events.

Arts & Disability Forum
In October, Accessible Arts will be conducting an Arts & Disability Forum in Western Sydney focusing on key issues and areas of interest within the sector. A fantastic learning and networking opportunity, this forum will be of interest to people working within the arts and/or disability sector as well as local government. If there is a topic or area of interest that you would like to see covered at the forum, please let us know about it. Opportunities :: Apprenticeship Training Program

Ever wanted to know what happens behind the scenes of a theatre production, event or festival? Have an interest in sound, lighting and multi media operation? If this sounds like you then get involved in Accessible Arts’ Apprenticeship Training Program!

WHY THIS COURSE?
Julius Media are specialists in entertainment technology with an excellent track record in training people for career outcome and/or experience working on community events. Julius Media are very well connected in the industry and are the only organisation in NSW that offer this kind of training.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?
Hands on experience in an accessible training venue in Parramatta. The course is a mixture of practical and theory, but the emphasis is on training you on up to date equipment in a supportive, friendly and fun learning environment. Course content includes how to safely operate & set up sound, lighting and multi media equipment for theatre and events and work effectively as part of a team. Upon completion of the course you will be introduced to several Western Sydney arts organisations that may provide possible voluntary or paid work experience in either events, music & youth festivals, theatre productions & gallery exhibitions.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
The Apprenticeship Training Program is geared specifically towards people with a disability. You must be over 18 and have a strong desire to be involved in the Entertainment Industry either as a volunteer, apprentice, paid worker or to gain further experience. You must be committed to the full duration of the course.

QUALIFICATION:
CUE 20103 Certificate II in Live Production, Theatre and Events. This qualification is received upon adequate completion of all units of the course.

DATES & TIMES:
The Apprenticeship Training Program runs for 30 weeks over 3 terms.
Term 1: Tuesday October 16th - Tuesday 18 December 2007
Term 2: Tuesday February 5th - Tuesday 8 April 2008
Term 3: Tuesday April 29th - Tuesday 1 July 2008
Each workshop runs from 10am- 1pm.

COST:
The course is heavily subsided by Accessible Arts however there is a one off joining fee of $50 to be paid upon commencement of the course.

VENUE:
Parramatta Riverside Theatre (Corner of Market and Church Streets).

Opportunities :: Outreach Workshops hit the Blue Mountains!

Accessible Arts has partnered with Information & Cultural Exchange to deliver a series of six workshops in sound and image collection.

The workshops were delivered by a sound artist and photographer, and explore the themes of ‘space’ and ‘place’ with various special schools, support units, day programs and accommodation services across the Hawkesbury, Penrith and Blue Mountains region. The groups have captured and recorded some great moments with highlights being eating chips by the Hawkesbury river, visiting the rooms of 8 residents at Cherrywood Accommodation Service and visiting the bushland surroundings of Katoomba.
