The Powerhouse Discovery Centre is a state-of-the-art storage and preservation facility located in Castle Hill and houses about 50,000 objects from the Powerhouse Museum collection.

The Display Store at the Powerhouse Discovery Centre brings together diverse objects from across the collection. There are objects relating to our transport history such as coaches, a double-decker bus, steam engines and ultralight aircraft located on the ground floor.

On level 1, there are hundreds of smaller objects, spanning decorative arts, design, science, technology, Indigenous cultures and Australian history. The collection also includes the shoe bike from the movie The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and some of the fabulous costumes from the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games opening ceremony. The Display Store is accessible by wheelchair.

The Powerhouse Discovery Centre is open to the public for casual and booked visits. Casual visitors can explore the Display Store and enjoy the programs and activities at the monthly Open Days, the second Saturday of the month (except January).

Booked visits are available for individuals and groups during the week (Tues to Fri) for self-guided or hosted tours of the centre and the Display Store. They also operate a School Holiday Program that includes tours, activities and workshops including workshops in Lego® Robotics.

The Powerhouse Discovery Centre is an accessible venue with accessible amenities and parking. They also accept the Companion Card. Visit their website for access information.

Demonstrating a commitment towards access and inclusion, the Discovery Centre recently had an access audit conducted of the venue to determine what barriers may exist for people with a disability. In addition, the centre is looking to develop sensory tours to make exhibitions and displays more accessible and to enhance peoples’ experience of the centre.

The Powerhouse Discovery Centre is located on 172 Showground Road (cnr Windsor & Showground Rds), Castle Hill. Bookings & enquiries 02 9762 1300  castlehill@phm.gov.au.
