TAFE NSW Accredited Disability Awareness and Access Training

Accessible Arts has been providing accredited Disability Awareness & Access (DA&A) training for over ten years. Developed by TAFE NSW in association with Accessible Arts, DA&A training is aligned to the module ‘Accessibility Awareness’ from the TAFE NSW accredited course ‘Arts Accessibility’.

This four-hour session is designed to increase understanding of disability and access issues in an arts context and includes an in class assessment task. A TAFE NSW transcript is issued upon completion of the training, when participants:

  • Complete a TAFE NSW enrolment form

  • Attend all four hours

  • Participate fully in all activities

  • Contribute to discussion

  • Complete an in class assessment task

2011 Disability Awareness and Access Training Session

Who: Staff from across all levels of arts and entertainment organisations, disability arts workers, local government and anyone interested in arts, disability and access.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define disability and identify it in a social context

  • Discuss and apply principles of universal access and design

  • Identify the legal responsibilities in providing access for people with disability

  • Identify barriers faced by people with disability in accessing venues and participating in events

  • Identify strategies for good customer service for people with disability and the communication of access requirements

  • Raise awareness of an understanding of disability culture in the arts

  • Identify strategies to implement in the workplace
