Rewriting the Score: National Music Residency

Rewriting the Score
Contemporary composers Abi McGaha Miller, Kalyn
Heffernan & Issac Miller, Wheelchair Sports Camp.

Rewriting the Score is an inclusive music project developed to increase and promote creative and performance opportunities for professional musicians with disability. Based in regional NSW, the project provides an avenue to build audiences for new music in regional NSW, whilst promoting links between art, creativity, inclusion and well-being.

Hosted by Orange Regional Conservatorium in partnership with Accessible Arts, Rewriting the Score brings together thirteen musicians with and without disability from across Australia.  Led by Artistic Director Graham Sattler, the residency supports skills development and an opportunity for collaboration within an intensive and supportive arts environment.

Since 1999, the Orange Regional Conservatorium has been operating as the hub of music resource for the Central West region of NSW. As a response to the communities desire for supporting local based quality tuition, the organisation has evolved into a comprehensive centre of music education and excellence. The conservatorium’s core focus is to design programs that are accessible to all, create performance opportunities and build community partnerships.

Rewriting the Score 2011

Eight successful recipients from metropolitan and regional NSW, Queensland, Perth and Tasmania will travel to Orange during the week of November 20 - 27 to work with five local professional musicians, creating a body of work for presentation at the conclusion of the residency.
