Process

Participant Alec Brennon with Cobar Arts Council
member Thelma Wade and participant Mark Madden.
Making Sense of Art, a project run by Cobar Arts Council, involved a series of art making workshops for kids with disability, guided by local professional artist Yvonne Beard.
At the first workshop the participants focused on printing and painting techniques and produced some brightly coloured art works on large cylinders.
During the second workshop, participants developed new skills using different tools to create some vivid, lively patterns on large cardboard cut-outs.
The third workshop focused on the final touches for the project. Participants put the finishing touches on parts of the castle, painted leaves for the vines that will go on to the castle and made some beautiful, very creative and colourful paper flowers.

Participant Mark Madden and Angela Webb
During the final workshop participants put the castle together and made their own personal crowns, be they kings, queens princess or the like.
On completion of the workshops, all artworks produced will be put together to build a Magnificent Castle. The castle will feature in the Making Sense of Art Exhibition - Official Opening at the Cobar Shire Library on Wednesday 2 December 2009.
Photographs of the students and workshop activities will be featured at the exhibition and then compiled into a Making Sense of Art ‘memory style’ story book.
So, far we have had a fabulous time with the kids. Quite a few siblings, parents and arts council members have assisted the participants at the workshop. The workshops have sparked a lot of enthusiasm in some of our members.
