Angela James on tenori-on.
"After producing some great music with the guys from the Tra La La Blip collective in 2008, receiving a grant from Accessible Arts to be part of the Don’t DIS my ABILITY campaign has freed the growth of Tra La La Blip in some really progressive ways.
Firstly having the opportunity to continue fostering Mathew Daymond, Aaron Dougherty, Angela James and Clare-Marie Conley’s growing interest in Abelton Live and witnessing the development of their skills with loops, effects, and various electronic instruments such as the Tenori-On, Soundbeam, Kaossilatior, Elektron MonoMachine and various midi contollers, has been increasingly satisfying over the last six weeks.
As an independent artsworker, it has reaffirmed my interest and passion in offering quality music making processes to people of all abilities and has me thinking about ways to increase access further, including building new software to meet the particular access requirements of some of the people I work with.

Secondly, this project has allowed us to collaborate with Heavy Load from the UK. Its been a great opportunity getting involved with these guys. And the remix we are doing of their track Cast Offs, has been the focus of the workshops and the goal we’re working towards.
Heavy Load are also mentors for us over here in Australia. They run a campaign called Stay Up Late, that’s basically about people with disabilities having access to late night gigs. Currently that’s dependent on support workers, systems and services. But Heavy Load want to see that improve, and we can learn a lot from that and replicate similar action here, to strengthen social inclusion in ways that are meaningful and relevant for people who like punk and indie music scenes that kick off after 10 pm, who wanna go out and stay out late."

About the organisation
Tra La La Blip is an electronic music/sound art collective of people with disabilities who access new music technologies and recording techniques. In September 2008 the collective released Soundbeam Sessions Vol 1, a compilation CD from the first six months of the project. Two songs from the album charted on Triple J’s Unearthed, one reaching number two and the other number five. Listen to the tracks on the Tra La La Blip myspace.
Multitask, Human Resources Foundation, provides training and support services for people with disabilities on the North Coast of NSW. Services aim to increase the independence of people with disabilities by supporting them to make informed choices about the way they wish to live their lives, and by providing them with the skills and support they need to make this a reality.
