Auslan tour at the Museum of Contemporary Art, member of ATAG.

Accessing The Arts Group (ATAG) is a professional development group committed to improving access for people with disability within the arts by disseminating current best practice and providing a forum for arts professionals to support and discuss areas of interest.

ATAG members work in a range of areas within arts and cultural organisations from programming and education to customer service. All members recognise that part of their role is to increase and improve accessibility for people with disability to their events, venues and programs.

Arts organisations represented in ATAG include the Art Gallery of NSW, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Historic Houses Trust, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Theatre Company, Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Powerhouse Museum and the Australian National Maritime Museum. The group  also has active members in community and cultural development sector and disability service providers.

The role of ATAG

All members play an advocacy role within their organisation. We focus on information exchange and professional development for members with the goal of acting and advocating to improve access across the arts, and at all levels of government, including grassroots and key decision makers.

Members of the ATAG network participate in an online group which is both a forum and a source of information about arts and disability programs and initiatives. ATAG looks to raise the profile of issues discussed at meetings by circulating updates via the online group and feeding back relevant bodies and organisations to highlight and promote key outcomes.
