Scott Trevelyan is an artist based in Alstonvale on the NSW North Coast.

The foundation of Trevelyan’s art making is grounded in prinkmaking. He uses his fluency in this medium to experiment and expand the possibilities of printmaking techniques to create artist books, sculpture and ephemera.

Trevelyan’s current body of work explores the increasing demands that have been thrust upon the honeybee Apis mellifera and it’s struggle for survival.

Trevelyan states, Australia is currently the only honey-producing country left in the world where the parasitic bee mite, Varroa destructor is not present.

The imminent arrival of Varroa into Australia has the potential to wreak havoc on our agriculture/horticulture industries by severely impacting pollination-reliant food crops as well as decimating honey production….There is no non-chemical treatment available to date.

For the past five years, Trevelyan has been investigating techniques of inserting his art works into active beehives on his Alstonvale property. He has developed a method in which he encourages the bees to build honeycomb onto the face of artworks, extracting the works when a desired outcome has been achieved from their daily toil.

Trevelyan holds a Bachelor Degree in Visual Arts from Southern Cross University. His work is represented in various public and private collections including State Library of Queensland and the Bundanon Trust.
