Lisa Reid

Lisa Reid, Bird Walking, 2011.
Observations of the everyday inform the artwork and practice of Melbourne based artist Lisa Reid. Reid draws inspiration from her immediate surrounds and experiences and her family. Familiar images and personalities of popular culture are also favoured subjects.
Reid’s artwork is characterised by a highly detailed and intricate aesthetic, often a result of meticulous planning, which include preparatory workings of a particular subject.
This approach is clearly evident in the works that have been selected for Framing Gravity. Bird Walking and Gymnast highlight Reid’s interest in portraiture and drawing skills in this instance in the form of hand-drawn cell animation loops, inspired by the work and innovations of the English photographer and film maker Eadweard J. Muybridge.
Reid works across a broad range of media, including painting, drawing and ceramics.
Reid has exhibited extensively in group exhibitions throughout Australia and was a finalist in the 2006 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award. Her work is held in numerous private collections and the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
Reid is supported through the studio-workshop program of Arts Project Australia, Victoria.
