Mythillogia, video still, artists Kevin Comty and Linda Wilken.
Linda Wilken is a practicing artist who lives and works in Western Sydney. Her work has been exhibited in private and regional galleries in Sydney, Melbourne and Tokyo.
While still maintaining a studio residency at Parramatta Artists Studios, Wilken is currently studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts, majoring in print media.
Wilken says “You can’t learn too much about art. By studying art at university I am engaging with current art theory and practices which I hope will add further depth to my art practice.”
Through the work Mythillogica Wilken takes printmaking and develops it to a time-based format. This video utilises traditional printmaking, drawing and collage to create a series of still images, digitised and re-worked into a short animated video. Working in collaboration with animator Kevin Comty, this 8-minute video is part of the collaborating artists’ on-going practice in juxtaposing traditional and new media methods. Their series discusses morality and ethics in the context of scientific achievements made in the area of human biology in past decades.
By forming a collaborative partnership with Kevin Comty, Mythillogica presents a new direction in Wilken’s art practice. The series resulting from this collaboration will test new and traditional creative mediums on a number of levels and discuss the ongoing debate regarding social values and morality in Western society.
