Kristy Sweeney

Kristy Sweeney, Organ series, 2010
Kristy Sweeney has developed her intrinsic style of pencil sketches over the past few years with her involvement with the Art Day South studio. Kristy’s sketches, working with pencil and ink, present internal human organs in dynamic illustrative composition. Her interpretation and use of colour in vivid composition directly challenges the viewer’s conception of the body.
In her Organ series, Kristy subverts the traditional method of labelling the individual organ parts by taking her labels from found text rather than reflecting the accurate anatomical nature of the organ’s usage. In this presentation of form over function, Kristy challenges what the human body is capable of, and what the organ’s purpose might truly be.
Kristy Sweeney is making her second appearance in AART.BOXX, following a showcase of her work in 2008. This larger body of work has been supported through Kristy’s work at the Art Day South studio, where she continues to expand her emerging practice.
