Georgia Cranko is an emerging, performance artist, who is passionate about exploring and broadening societal definition of ability. This inherently means deepening understanding of both disability and humanity through performance.

She was born with Cerebral Palsy, which affects her movement and speech, but has not let these physical limitations have a profound impact on her life. Georgia participated in drama classes with the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) throughout her childhood. In 2007, she received a honourable mention in the Dorothea Mackellar prize for poetry. A year later, she joined a ‘mixed ability ensemble’ organised by Powerhouse Youth Theatre, which resulted in a production about working rights, entitled Hard Daze.

As part of the 2010 national Don’t Dis my Ability campaign, Georgia was a recipient of a small Accessible Arts grant, and collaborated with body-based artist, Georgie Read and video artist, Michelle Dennis on her first solo piece Living Within Context, which explored the little challenges and triumphs of life with a physical disability. Through the use of movement, video, poetry and autobiographical writing, Georgia provided a highly personal and engaging insight into the thoughts, feelings and practicalities of living without speech.
