Danny Moore is a self-taught artist whose beguiling work is a reflection on the subversive nature of horror and dreams.

I don’t get my inspiration from the news or current events. I am solely inspired from my own thoughts and dreams; I use the imagery from horror books and movies.

When Moore was seven, he would obsessively draw characters from children’s cult television shows such a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Power Rangers. However, it was not until 2004 with his involvement in the Free Wheeling Media exhibition that Moore started to seriously pursue his artistic practice.

Within Moore’s practice, the amalgamation of familiar scenery with images of the subconscious results in an unsettling curiosity for the viewer. Moore prefers to work with colour pencil, ink pen and lead pencil as it allows him to shade, giving the work subtlety in its tone and colour. The work contains gradual distinctions between light and dark - an allegory for good and evil.

Moore’s composition has an inherent fluidity; the eye moves slowly and is carried around his work. In some parts of the work the viewer is in an aerial position, in others they are level with the subject.

Music, heavy metal in particular, evokes the creative process for Moore and he cites Salvador Dali, J.R.R Tolkien, Frank Miller and Stephen King as influences on his work.
