Ana Nguyen
Ana Nguyen is a performer and activist based in Sydney’s west. Working primarily within the hip-hop genre, Nguyen uses this medium as a basis to combine music and poetry in an expression of her thoughts around social justice issues.
Most recently, Nguyen’s work Economy Sick was released on iTunes with an accompanying video on youtube.com. The work’s central focus is the impact of imbalance within the global economy, and the cumulative effects it can have on day to day life. The video itself is a composition of music-video style clips, including shots of Nguyen performing on a festival stage interspersed with stock market images. The dichotomy of these images combined with Nguyen’s vocals gives the overall impression of crisis and disparity. Nguyen is a passionate advocate for equality and justice, and uses spoken word and hip-hop to address some of the challenges she has both experienced and perceived.
Nguyen has also performed in stage productions with the Powerhouse Youth Theatre (PYT) including City Quest (2007) and Hard Daze (2009). She is also a member of the hip hop outfit the First Flight Crew.
