Adrian Robertson

Adrian Robertson is a Central Australian Western Desert artist. He currently lives in Alice Springs but comes from a small community near Yuendumu, which is 300 km outside of Alice Springs in the Tanami desert.
Landscapes are Robertson’s primary subject and the majority of his inspiration comes from memories of his homeland. Robertson lives in supported accommodation in Alice Springs and although he has a great desire to return home, he visits his homeland infrequently. As such, he is passionate about painting his country from memory.
Robertson’s recent work sees him depicting the various chasms, gaps, waterholes and mountain ranges of the Alice Springs district, sketching with charcoals and returning to paint the scenes. Working predominately with acrylics, he uses broad and free brush strokes or spiral forms to form the base of the artwork, which he then builds on with colour, mixing his paints on the canvas rather than the palette. Adrian will also paint the outline of the landscape using a contrasting colour.
When choosing his paints Adrian prefers to work with oranges, reds, yellows, browns and antique whites. These tones reflect the vibrant colours of Central Australia and his country.
He has exhibited at Gallery Gabriell Pizzi and Alcaston Gallery in Melbourne and Birrung Gallery in Sydney.
