Accessible Ceramics Group
Following on from last year’s Bus Trip to the Moon, the Accessible Ceramics Group’s Runner Way is a short-stop animation using ceramic figurines. The group was formed as a partnership between the Pine Street Creative Arts Centre’s outreach program and Roomies Artspace in Marrickville.
The film expands on the program which saw the development of Bus Trip to the Moon and shows the expansion of the group’s filmmaking skills. Runner Way, while utilising the same labour intensive method of production and retaining the whimsical charm of Bus Trip, is cinematically more developed. The use of ceramics – an unforgiving and unalterable material - for the film’s props and characters indicates the bold approach of the group. Such a choice could potentially limit the group’s ability to develop characters and communicate emotion, yet they are able to do this through an increased utilisation of cinematic devices such as the close up and soundtrack.
