Biography: I am a visual artist that teaches children within secondary schooling art and design. Some of these students have autism, hearing impairments and mild intellectual disabilities. My art practice is mainly in jewellery but I also work in felt, wood, textiles and ceramics. I have taught adults jewellery making at University and evening colleges across Sydney. I throughly enjoy teaching and making art.

Biography: I am a passionate artist, writer, teacher and speaker on creativity.  I love working with people of various abilities.  In 2004 I founded a unique program using breathing, movement, relaxation and creative processes, including painting, drawing, craft and story telling.  I encourage fun and acknowledgement of the participants as a practising artist working with people with disability.  As a result of my mentoring, students have received art prizes and awards. I’ve since founded the Integral Arts Mentoring Project, an arts mentoring program for people with disability.

Linden Braye

Biography: I have facilitated art workshops for people with and without disability and for those who are socially disadvantaged. I develop projects that adapt to the individual needs and skills of clients and aim for enjoyable and achievable outcomes. I endeavour to encourage and build confidence in the process of making art and by supporting new and emerging skills. It is exciting to discover, develop and exchange ideas with people, extending my own abilities whilst supporting others to make work. I have a Masters of Visual Art and 10 years experience as a practicing artist. I have a flexible approach to making art and can work in 2D and 3D mediums utilising materials that are at hand.

David Capra

Biography: I am a practicing artist working in sculpture, drawing, painting and performance. I have been involved with various cultural and community organisations including as artist in residence with artists Daniel Kojta in Balmain Secondary College’s support unit, Arts NSW and Accessible Arts. I also worked with Tia McIntyre and the Tuesday Night Club for Blacktown Sargent’s Disability Centre. I look forward to further projects that assist people in developing their skills and making the creative sector more accessible and rewarding.

Biography: I facilitate ceramic workshops in Coffs Harbour for people with a disability.  I have a vision impairment myself.  I have worked with clay since 1999. My workshops involve planned, flexible projects which are always lots of fun.  My aim is to impact people’s health and wellbeing positively. I also have a Bachelor of Human Services degree from Southern Cross University.

John A Douglas

Biography: I am a practicing artist with broad experience in a wide range of the visual and performing arts as well as teaching and project development. I am experienced with working with people of varying abilities and have had students from the age of 13 to 65. My main focus now is in the visual arts, primarily video and multimedia. I also know the constricting influence occasioned by a kidney condition that requires regular access to treatment. My work experience includes teaching at public and private tertiary art institutions and practice with video, audio and multimedia projects, including with the Museum of Contemporary Art, the College of Fine Arts and the University of NSW. I particularly enjoy helping people to discover their own abilities in a fun environment and I believe that is a specialist area of my expertise.

Stephanie Gallagher

Biography: I am a practising artist. I taught for two years at STUDIO ARTES where I worked with adults with a range of disabilities including intellectual, mobility and sensory impairment. In my workshops I have taught painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles and mixed media. I have a strong passion for the visual arts and making it accessible to anyone who desires to create. I have a BA degree in fine arts from the National Art School. Over the last three years I have had several group and solo shows.

Brent Harpur

Biography: As a cartoonist I have worked with people with various disability including vision impairment, autism, Aspergers, stroke, intellectual disability and specific learning requirements.  Most recently I have worked alongside police and social workers with at risk children in New Zealand and homeless young adults at the Oasis Youth centre in Sydney.  As an arts worker, my work has taken me into companies, conferences, libraries, prisons, galleries, schools and TAFE.  I am also experienced at working with clients one on one.   I am unable to drive, due to a sight disability, but I can travel unaided on public transport. A guide or assistance may be required from transport to venue.

Diamando Koutsellis

Biography: I am  a visual artist who works with disability groups on ongoing art programs as well as specific community arts projects including public art. I currently works with two disability groups to produce and exhibit artworks. I work primarily with clay to create interesting artworks such as wind chimes, animals and masks, using methods that enable people to create to their ability with positive outcomes.

Kaz Madigan

Biography: My passion for creating weave textiles and passing on these skills to other people has led me to teach a wide and diverse range of people for over 30 years. This included working in technical and teacher support in the Equity Unit within TAFE.  As a curious weaver, I continuously explore the ingenuity and art of weave through techniques which enable all to be included. My publications include Curious Weaver Journal and The Australian Weaving Book used as a TAFE text for constructed textile courses.  I have a Saori Free Style weaving studio where anyone may come to weave, using simple creative techniques.

Susan Oxenham

Biography: Since I was 17, I have had a vision impairment through a Genetic Disorder called Von Hippell Lindau. I have been legally blind since 2005. Despite this, I have over 30 years experience in visual arts and photography in both a teaching and commercial capacity. I have experience working with local Community Colleges and Youth groups. I have also taught Literacy through Art Programs for Adults with mild to moderate intellectual disability, in which each student creates their own individual communication book.

Nyree Reynolds

Painting workshops and indigenous art

Biography: I am an Indigenous woman of the Gamillaroi Nation and an artist member of Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co op. My experience ranges from working as an arts and community worker with Mental Health and Disability for over 15 years in the A.C.T., where I established the Belconnen Open Art Program. My approach to conducting workshops is focused around a sense of purpose and place. There is an emphasis on teaching achievable skills in a supportive and caring environment. The process evolves organically within the framework of the workshop allowing each person to develop artistically as an individual at their own pace. My qualifications include Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment.

Keith Rutherford

Biography: I am an an abstract painter and have had experience working with people with disabilities. I supervised the Art House at Dalkara, (Rudolf Steiner School for adults with disabilities) and later, ran workshops at Campbelltown City Art Gallery for adults and young adults with disabilities. I was awarded a residency at Bundanon, and was a guest speaker at the Arts Activated Conference on ‘Disclosing Disability’. Major art prizes for which I have exhibited include the Hazelhurst Art Award for Works on Paper, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and both the Dobell Prize for Drawing and Wynne Prize, Art Gallery of NSW.

I enjoy working with creative people and believe in the power of photography as a tool for self expression and social change. My experience includes the development of a photography workshop for adults with moderate intellectual disability and another in conjunction with Sunnyfield and Leichhardt Council which chronicled the daily lives of 13 people from Sunnyfield’s Day Options Program.

Biography: I am a visual arts tutor living and working in Port Macquarie. I have worked with a diverse range of people with varying access needs including young people, people living with Alzheimer’s and mental health issues. My experience and certification in Visual Arts IV allows me to produce a wide range of workshops, tutorials and individual sessions. Since 2004 I have been tutoring in drawing, painting, mixed media and 3D clay work. I also hold a certificate in Art Therapy.

As a tutor I delight in helping my students discover their own creative talents in a fun environment. I develop programs to meet the needs and skills of my service users.

Biography: As manager and curator of one of Melbourne’s largest employers of people with disabilities for over seven years, I worked across all aspects of the business which provided employment, on the job training, professional development and representation for a group of talented artists with intellectual disability.  My role involved working with them to further their skills in painting and drawing and their development as professional arts workers in a professional art studio.  I established Q Art Gallery and Gift Shop to provide a space to showcase their work, where the artists enjoyed the recognition and excitement  of their own shows.

Exhibiting and promoting the work of emerging artists who are marginalised or excluded is one of my passions. My own work has been exhibited in various venues in WA and NSW.
