Creating Connections: Arts and Disability North Coast

Drumming to our own beat, Alstonville Showgrounds,
IDPWD 2010
Accessible Arts works across the North Coast region of NSW to establish new arts and disability networks and support existing opportunities for people with disability to fully experience and participate in the Arts. This includes increasing representation in the Arts of artists with disability and inclusive arts collectives across the region, as well as supporting the development and promotion of accessible venues, activities, studios and communications.
The project aims to:
- strengthen the capacity of arts and disability organisations and local councils in the region
- ensure inclusive arts practices through strong partnerships, education and networking opportunities
- develop the capacity of arts workers and administrators in relation to inclusive practices
The project covers thirteen local council areas including Ballina, Bellingen, Byron, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour, Greater Taree, Hastings, Kempsey, Kyogle, Lismore, Nambucca, Richmond Valley and Tweed.
An arts and disability project officer position has been created for the project, the first role of this kind in regional NSW. The Accessible Arts Officer works closely with arts centres, disability agencies, artists with disability and local councils across the North Coast, developing a regional approach towards inclusive and accessible programs and practices.
The Creating Connections project is funded by the NSW Government Community Services, Department of Family and Community Services.
