In Touch with Sculpture By The Sea 2010
Accessible Arts, the peak arts and disability organization in NSW, is delighted to once again partner with Sculpture by the Sea to provide a series of Tactile Tours for people with vision impairment and people with intellectual disability.
A successful pilot program last year increased accessibility to this fantastically popular event for people with vision impairment. Accessible Arts and Sculpture by the Sea are both committed to building on that experience and expanding the reach of the program to people with disabilities. This year, as well as audio described tours for people with vision impairment, Sculpture by the Sea will run Tactile Tours in Easy English for people with intellectual disability.
These guided tours through the exhibition site of Mark's Park will encourage people to interact and engage with a series of stimulating artworks that are safe to touch and located in easily accessible areas. The audio described Tactile Tours will be delivered by Carolyn Bethwaite and Wendy Payne, who bring over ten years experience working in the visual arts, and by Wendy Payne.
Sophie Clausen, Accessible Arts Access Coordinator, is particularly excited about bringing Easy English to Sculpture by the Sea. 'This is a new area for both organisations,' said Sophie. 'We are very much looking forward to people with intellectual disability having far greater access to, and enjoyment of, this wonderful event.'
