17th Sydney Biennale Lord Mayor Community Access Days for people with disabilities
The Biennale of Sydney, Australia's largest and most exciting visual arts event, is renowned for showcasing the freshest and most provocative contemporary art from Australia and the world in Sydney's leading art venues and public sites.
This year The Biennale will hold three separate Lord Mayor Community Access Days, designed to open up the exhibition’s key themes and artworks for people living with disabilities and their carers. Each Lord Mayor Community Access Day features tours of various Biennale exhibitions with audio description and Auslan interpretation.
Tours are free but bookings are essential.

Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA)
11:00am: Audio description tour
1:00pm: Auslan tourBoth tours commence in the MCA foyer, 140 George Street, The Rocks.
Located on Sydney’s iconic Circular Quay in an architecturally striking building, the MCA presents 285 works by 92 international and Australian artists for the 2010 Biennale. Visitors with restricted mobility can enjoy all public areas of the Museum, including galleries and function areas.

Cockatoo Island
11:00am: Auslan tour
200pm: Audio Description tour
Both tours commence at Pier 2/3, Hickson Road, The Rocks.
This year 56 Biennale artists take over Cockatoo Island with 120 artworks. The largest island in Sydney Harbour, a former prison, shipyard and industrial site, Cockatoo Island still has uneven surfaces and hazardous voids. Several buildings are darkened and require extra vigilance and a number of buildings will not be accessible by wheelchair.

Royal Botanic Gardens
11:00am: Auslan tour
1:00pm: Audio Description tour
Both tours commence at the Palace Garden Gate, Macquarie Street (nr Bent), Sydney. Take the Vittoria Biennale ArtWalk and discover three iconic works on the theme of threatened and threatening nature in Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens, located in the heart of the city.
Lord Mayor Community Access Days are presented by the Biennale of Sydney and the City of Sydney, with assistance from Accessible Arts.
