Access to authors at The Big Reading, Sydney Writers Festival signs support, takes the rap
The 2010 Sydney Writers' Festival sees the welcome return of festival favourite The Big Reading on Saturday May 22, with Auslan interpretation, and the rapping return of Hip Hop Projections 5 on Sunday May 16.
A Sydney Writers’ Festival institution, The Big Reading features both local and international authors reading from their work. Hosted by Sydney-based writer and broadcaster Annette Shun Wah, overseas guests at The Big Reading this year include;
- Hanan al-Shaykh, one of the contemporary Arab world's most acclaimed writers,
- Willy Vlautin, the author of acclaimed novels ‘The Motel Life’ and ‘Northline’,
- Dubravka Ugresic, finalist for the 2009 Man Booker International Prize, renowned novelist, essayist and controversial Croatian anti-war campaigner, and
- Rupert Thomson, author of eight highly acclaimed novels including his recent, dazzlingly funny memoir.

HIP HOP PROJECTIONS 5: Words From The West
A night of rapping, singing, dance, visual projections and the spoken word, featuring First Flight Crew. Formed in 2008 after a series of Accessible Arts facilitated song creation workshops for musicians with disability, First Flight Crew have evolved into a seven piece hip hop outfit performing original tracks with Aussie hiphop producer Morganics.
When: Sunday 16 May 2010 from 18.00 to 21.00
