Arts and disability activated at Accessible Arts national conference
The second Arts Activated National Conference, held at the Powerhouse Museum at the end of March 2010, bought together 350 people over two days, from across Australia and overseas.
Forty per cent of delegates who attended came from the arts, 40 per cent from the disability sector and 20 per cent from education, community and health. Initial feedback from delegates suggests that over 85 per cent of delegates experienced the program as above average to excellent.
Sancha Donald, CEO Accessible Arts said, “We would like to thank all who attended Arts Activated 2010. Ultimately a conference relies on the speakers, performers and delegates to deliver a successful event. This contribution creates the inspiration, challenges and support that sustains and drives us in our work at Accessible Arts. Ideas and recommendations generated will shape and inform our future work. Hopefully the networks that were established and strengthened will provide support to enable the tremendous energy generated over the two days to forge new and quality opportunities for arts and disability to flourish.”
Online delegate and speaker surveys are currently being distributed to promote the continuation of conversations initiated at the conference. Contact lists are also being compiled to encourage ongoing channels of communication within and between the sectors. Dependant on papers received, available resources and demand, transcripts will possibly be available online in the near future. Any resources that are developed from the conference will be announced in the Accessible Arts newsletter.
Keynote speeches presented by Jenny Sealey, MBE on both days of Accessible Arts’ Arts Activated National Conference are now available online.
A range of young artists with disability from across Australia and New Zealand attended the Arts Activated National Conference as presenters, performers and delegates.
An information booth and staff from the Australia Council for the Arts will be available at the Arts Activated National Conference for all delegates to drop by, have a chat and pick up relevant information about their current programs and services.
A disability service in the eastern suburbs of Sydney has registered more than half of its Day Service staff to attend the Arts Activated National Conference at the Powerhouse Museum in March 2010.
