Bundanon broadens access initiatives
During 2010 Bundanon Trust is including a number of initiatives in their program that are inclusive of people with disability.
Following on from the first residency opportunity for a NSW artist with a disability in 2008, Bundanon continues a partnership with Accessible Arts to present this opportunity for the second time. Blue Mountains based new media artist, Daniel Kojta has been awarded the residency, which aims to foster further professional development opportunities for the artist.
The Outreach program at Bundanon Trust will place a focus on people with disability during 2010. Day visit workshops have been designed to meet the needs of local people and groups from the Disability Trust in Nowra and the Illawarra, the Nowra Junction Mental Health Group and Cross Roads Youth Health Services will participate in the program.
"The focus of the workshops will be based on an art practice exploring imagery, materials and concepts. Participants in the workshop will be encouraged to extend their art making with new materials, exploring a range of images and concepts to develop a sense of satisfaction with their final artwork," said Jim Birkett, Education Officer.
The Bundanon property was gifted to the Australian people in 1993 by Arthur and Yvonne Boyd and is located on bush land overlooking the Shoalhaven River, near Nowra in NSW, two and a half hours south of Sydney. The Australian Government established the Bundanon Trust to house a collection of more than 4,000 artworks, as well as offer an extensive artist in residency program, a residential education program and a public program which includes concerts and special events on the property.
