24/11/2009 - Media Release

Registrations are now open for Accessible Arts’ Arts-Activated Conference at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney over 25-26 March 2010. A range of national and international speakers from the arts and disability sectors will come together to explore the themes of Arts – Access – Excellence through a series of workshops, panels and performances.

The 2010 conference will focus on the issues and challenges around participation in the visual arts for artists with disability, including questions such as: Are artists with a disability capable of excellence? A highlight of the program will be the opportunity to hear visual artists with disability talk about their work and practice, and to view artists’ responses to the term ‘excellence’.

Speakers include Rachel Gadsden, UK based visual artist, Camilla Connolly, self-taught painter and Australian Director of the Asperger Women Association, Jane Trengrove, Manager Access Programs, Arts Access Victoria, and practising artists Sue Roff, Arts Project Australia and Scott Trevelyan, recipient of the inaugural Accessible Arts Bundanon residency.

The conference is intended for artists with and without a disability, arts workers, disability service providers, festival organisers and volunteers, policy makers, funding bodies, cultural institutions, venues and anyone interested in arts and disability.

Early-bird registrations are open until 18 December. For more information visit www.aarts.net.au
