Conference addresses access in Museums & Galleries
Registrations are now open for Accessible Arts’ Arts-Activated Conference at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney over 25-26 March 2010. A range of national and international speakers from the arts and disability sectors will come together to explore the themes of Arts – Access – Excellence through a series of workshops, panels and performances.
The conference will look at the role of museums and galleries in providing access and supporting artists with disability. The program includes Rebecca Fawcett (UK), Cultural Program Manager for Parliamentary Outreach and UK-based visual artist Rachel Gadsden, speaking about the Breaking Barriers project. Developed by Parliamentary Outreach, Breaking Barriers was a pilot program to engage people with mental health issues about the role of parliament. Rachel Gadsden, an international visual artist with a disability was commissioned for the project and will offer practical examples of creating artworks on the topic.
The conference is intended for cultural institutions, venues, artists with and without a disability, arts workers, disability service providers, policy makers, funding bodies, festival organisers, volunteers and anyone interested in arts and disability.
Early-bird registrations are open until 18 December. For more information visit www.aarts.net.au
