Go beyond technique with Inclusive Dance masterclass

04/01/2010 - Media Release

Applications are open for Accessible Arts’ Beyond Technique: Searching for Authenticity series of inclusive dance masterclasses in March 2010. Beyond Technique is a unique practical professional development opportunity for NSW artists to experience inclusive dance practice.

Led by Philip Channells, Artistic Director of Adelaide’s Restless Dance, the masterclass is intended for emerging and professional dancers with and without disability, dance industry professionals, teachers, choreographers, performers with movement background, educators with dance experience and arts practitioners with an interest in disability arts.

There are three parts to these masterclasses, each of which explores creative movement in an inclusive environment and involves warm up, strengthening exercises, ways to adapt movement and improvisation leading to new work. There is the option to join in all or part of the program.

Philip spent seven years working with Restless Dance Theatre as a performer, workshop leader and assistant director. He has recently been working in the UK with dance companies such as Candoco, StopGAP and Corali.

Beyond Technique takes place as a part of the 2010 Arts-Activated Conference, showcasing examples of excellence in arts and disability.
