Extra 20K for Junction Works Spark Festival

10/12/2009 - Sector News

Minister for Disability Services Paul Lynch and Member for Macquarie Fields Andrew McDonald today announced funding of $20,000 to help Junction Works stage its annual Spark Festival.

The announcement was made at the organisation's Family Fun Day at Lurnea in November.

Mr Lynch said the $20,000 was in addition to the $4.6 million the government gave to Junction Works to provide a variety of services to people with a disability and their families across Sydney’s south west metropolitan area.

“Junction Works has been conducting drama and music workshops since the mid-1990s and running the Spark Festival – a creative event for people with a disability since 2004,” he said.

“Both are wonderful initiatives and I congratulate the organisation for its foresight,” Mr Lynch said.

Dr McDonald said the local community valued the contribution of Junction Works.

“They provide Post School programs to encourage young school leavers with a disability into work or community participation as well as day activities, case management and respite packages to ageing parent carers,” he said.

“Junction Works also successfully tendered to Ageing, Disability and Home Care for a sibling support program and now received annual funding of $103,000,” Dr McDonald said.

“The program assists siblings develop positive strategies to help them live with their sisters and brothers who have a disability,” he said.
