Pre-Arts Activated National Conference 2010 Masterclass

Beyond Technique | Searching for Authenticity, a series of dance masterclasses in 2010, is a unique practical professional development opportunity for NSW artists to experience inclusive dance practice.
There are three different parts to these professional development masterclasses, all of which explore creative movement in an inclusive environment and involve warm up, strengthening exercises, ways to adapt movement and improvisation leading to new work. There is the option to join in all or part of the program.
Philip Channells, Artistic Director of Adelaide’s Restless Dance Theatre will lead the masterclasses. Philip spent seven years working with Restless Dance Theatre as a performer, workshop leader and assistant director. He has recently been working in the UK with dance companies such as Candoco, StopGAP, Corali.
When:
- 23 March 2010, 6:00pm to 8:00pm - Inclusive dance practice
- 24 March 2010, 10:00am to 5:00pm - Inclusive creative development
- 24 March 2010, 6:00pm to 7:00pm - Showing of work created
Where: Bay 19, Carriageworks, 245 Wilson Street, Eveleigh NSW.
Who: Emerging and professional dancers with and without disability, dance industry professionals, teachers, choreographers, performers with movement background, educators with dance experience and arts practitioners with an interest in disability arts.
Cost:
- $20 - Evening masterclass in inclusive dance practice
- $20 - Daytime creative development
- FREE - Evening showing of work

Keynote speeches presented by Jenny Sealey, MBE on both days of Accessible Arts’ Arts Activated National Conference are now available online.
The second Arts Activated National Conference, held at the Powerhouse Museum at the end of March 2010, bought together 350 people over two days, from across Australia and overseas.
A range of young artists with disability from across Australia and New Zealand attended the Arts Activated National Conference as presenters, performers and delegates.
An information booth and staff from the Australia Council for the Arts will be available at the Arts Activated National Conference for all delegates to drop by, have a chat and pick up relevant information about their current programs and services.
A disability service in the eastern suburbs of Sydney has registered more than half of its Day Service staff to attend the Arts Activated National Conference at the Powerhouse Museum in March 2010. Eleven staff from Miroma will attend the conference as part of their staff development and general training.
