19/11/2009 - Feature

Unlimited, the UK’s largest ever disability arts program, has been launched by the 2012 Cultural Olympiad as part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, planned for July 2012 through to September 2012.

Unlimited will celebrate disability, arts, culture and sport on an unprecedented scale including supporting collaboration between artists in the UK and other countries, to showcase new work from around the world.

The Cultural Olympiad puts Culture at the heart of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, to showcase excellence in the performing arts and creative industries as well as sport. Unlimited will ensure arts and disability have prominent involvement in this cultural activity.

Jenny Sealey, MBE, UK based artist and Artisitc Director of Graeae Theatre Company is the Artistic Advisor to Unlimited. Jenny is the keynote speaker at the Arts Activated National Conference 2010 – Arts, Access, Excellence.

The Unlimited program will have four pillars:

  • Unlimited Talent: bespoke training and mentoring program for successful applicants to support the realisation of their commission

  • Unlimited Presents: work created through Unlimited Commissions will have the opportunity to be showcased in London and across the UK

  • Unlimited International: supporting collaboration between artists in the UK and other countries, and showcasing new work from around the world. This pillar of the program is being led by the British Council and is still in development, full details will be announced in 2010.

Unlimited is principally funded by the Olympic Lottery Distributor, and is delivered in partnership between London 2012, Arts Council England, the Scottish Arts Council, Arts Council of Wales, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the British Council.
