Access fully covered by touring film festival
Karina Libby, Festival Coordinator of Access All Areas Film Festival 2009, is excited about new developments happening this year at the festival, which emphasize access is at the core of this touring event.
The Access All Areas Film Festival will visit venues across NSW from 16 November to 3 December 2009. The event will feature free screenings of acclaimed Australian films, all fully accessible with audio description, captions, wheelchair access and Auslan interpreted Q&A sessions.
The festival will visit Castle Hill, North Rocks, Griffith, Wagga Wagga and Orange, finishing its run at Sydney’s Dendy Opera Quays on 3 December 2009 to mark International Day of People with a Disability. The Sydney screenings will run alongside a panel discussion on the subject of increasing access to film and festivals for people with a disability.
A program of new short films for children – including the IF award nominee Tin Can Heart - will visit schools for the Deaf and blind in Western Sydney. Selected filmmakers from around the country will be traveling with the Festival to present their work and chat with audiences.
Access All Areas Film Festival is a flagship event of the 2009 Don’t DIS my ABILITY campaign to celebrate International Day of People with a Disability. Bookings are essential for access services and to reserve your tickets. Call the festival office on 9281 5608 for tickets, group bookings and to request an audio receiver or wheelchair space.
ACCESS ALL AREAS FILM FESTIVAL is presented by the NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care and The Festivalists. Red Bee is the event’s major sponsor, with supporting partners including Cochlear, Media Access Australia, the NSW Film & Television Office and the City of Sydney.
