A new home in the arts
Home is where the heART is, an adaptation of the Greek myth Orpheus, will be performed by the Sydney Street Choir, and presented at Belvoir St Theatre over the coming three weeks.
This production was devised by members of the Sydney Street Choir, who have developed their choral and performance skills over the last few years, through numerous choir performances, workshops and collaborations with professional musicians and community choir groups.
Peter Lehner, Artistic Director explains "When I first started working with the group, they sang a small range of choral songs in unison. They now sing in four part harmonies and have expanded their performance skills to present a unique theatrical and choral production."
With support from Company B and the City of Sydney, Home is where the heART is, will give voice to stories of homelessness and disadvantage. It will also demonstrate that resilience and community support go hand in hand and can create an artistic platform that changes lives.
Members of the Sydney Street Choir are homeless and disadvantaged men and women. They have been confronted with some of the toughest challenges life can present, and they inspire audiences with their personal stories of how they are working to overcome their challenges, and realise their dreams.
Home is where the heART is will be staged on Monday 20 July, Monday 27 July and Monday 3 August at 7:30pm at Belvoir St Theatre. Full price $25, concession $20. Wheelchair accessible venue. Please book ahead to discuss access requirement. Tel: (02) 9699 3444. More info on What's On.
