A nationwide protest was held in all capital cities on Saturday 13 February 2010, galvanizing general consensus that the current level of access to cinema is unacceptable to people who have sensory disabilities, their families and their friends.

Three inventions to help people with disability are featured in a special edition of the ABC1 television program The New Inventors screening on 10 March 2010.

Action on Cinema Access, a newly-formed community group, will protest in Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide, on Saturday 13 February at 11:00 am, to demonstrate disapproval at Village Roadshow, Greater Union, Hoyts and Reading Cinemas, who have applied for an exemption from the Disability Discrimination Act for two and a half years.

An innovative project for musicians with mixed abilities will use sound to explore new realms of possibility in a place free of social and physical barriers.

An organisation in the ACT that provides a broad range of accessible music programs has won the Music Council of Australia’s national Music in Communities Award.
