Mobile arts studio models solution for transport issues in regional areas
A mobile arts studio project in the Bega Valley Shire has culminated in an exhibition of paintings from artists with disabilities supported in their home environments

The Out of the Garage project commenced in the Bega Valley Shire following funding from the Ian Potter Foundation. It has allowed Sandy Gill, the coordinator and primary arts educator to work on art making projects with six people in their home environments. The people have had a diverse range of disabilities and are of ages ranging from 21 to 66. The art works have been created in various mediums to suit the styles and needs of the individuals.
This project diversifies the creative options for people with a disability living in the Bega Valley Shire and also provides opportunities for people with health, mobility or behavioral issues that restrict them from studio access. It also challenges the circumstances where artists with a disability become further marginalised due to inflexible age limits that restrict funding and access to programs.
The quality and diversity of the body of work created through the Out of the Garage project strongly indicates the importance and value of this project. The project is currently seeking to acquire new clients and possible on going funding sources to provide home based art making. The project would be able to provide home based art making options to a wide range of peoples, ages and types of disability.
