Seniors Week 2012 Grant Decisions

16/12/2011 - Sector News

Minister for Ageing Andrew Constance has announced $188,000 in grants to 267 local government, community, volunteer and not-for-profit organisations across the State for NSW Seniors Week 2012 celebrations, events and activities.

“Grants of up to $1000 are being allocated to a variety of projects that offer a wide range of recreational, artistic and educational opportunities for older people,” Mr Constance said. “The projects include concerts, digital media and computer classes, dance workshops and health and fitness seminars. The grant funding helps strengthen the ‘Live Life’ theme and encourages seniors to become actively involved in the community.”

“This year the assessment process was very competitive, with 421 organisations submitting high standard applications. I commend all the organisations that received a grant and wish them every success with their events. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the current NSW population over 60 years of age is more than 1.4 million so it is fitting we celebrate the contribution older people make, such as through volunteering, mentoring or other activities.”

“The O’Farrell Government is committed to securing the right conditions for older people to participate fully in their communities and to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.”

NSW Seniors Week events will be held from 18 to 25 March 2012.
