Local Appointment for North Coast Creative Initiative
Accessible Arts, the peak body for arts and disability in NSW, is pleased to announce the appointment of Julie Barratt as the first Arts + Disability officer for the Creating Connections: Arts & Disability North Coast project.
The creative force behind Alstonville’s Barratt Galleries, Julie Barratt comes to the position with a sound background in arts, teaching and small business management and a passion for inclusion. Hailing from Central Queensland, Julie relocated to the Lismore area in 2003 and has since studied, taught numerous workshops, continued her professional development as a printmaker and run her business in the region, becoming firmly embedded in the North Coast community. Earlier this year Julie took a break to set up a printmaking studio in Nepal for young Deaf women which reinforced her belief in the importance of access to the arts for all people.
Accessible Arts CEO Sancha Donald is delighted to have a working artist of Julie Barratt’s depth of experience on board for the Creating Connections project. ‘The quality of applicants for the Arst + Disability position from the North Coast region was very heartening,’ said Ms Donald ‘ And the general response across the community bodes well for the connections we hope to achieve and foster.’
Creating Connections: Arts & Disability North Coast is a three year, $300 000 project dedicated to increasing contact, communication and activity between the arts and disability sectors in the local government areas of Ballina, Tweed Shire, Byron Shire, Coffs Harbour, Kyogle, Kempsey, Hastings/Port Macquarie, Bellingen, Lismore, Greater Taree and the Clarence Valley.
