Stop press: Dance symposium update
Dance and disability - modes of inclusion and a process of discovery. Become involved in the possibility.
Arts is pleased to announce Rafael Bonachela, Artistic Director and Choreographer of Sydney Dance Company will join the upcoming Dance Symposium as a member of the panel.
The Dance Symposium will demonstrate and expand inclusive dance practice in NSW. Leaders and innovative thinkers in dance from across the country will share knowledge, experience and skills to inspire new directions for inclusive dance practice.
The day will include a panel-led forum and a masterclass, which will offer insight into a professional and integrated creative process.
The Symposium will be facilitated by Jeff Meiners, Lecturer of Education, Arts and Social Sciences at South Australia University and acknowledged leader in dance and disability education and outreach programs, both nationally and internationally.
Panel members include;
- Philip Channells, Artistic Director of Restless Dance Theatre, an industry leader in the field of disability arts practice achieving national and international acclaim
- Cathy Murdoch, Director of Ausdance, the peak professional body for dance in NSW, bringing her wealth of knowledge in arts management and strategic planning
- Tim Podesta, Artistic Director of Dis/assemble Dance Project, a project that works with dancers with and without disability to create new and contemporary multi media dance works.
Masterclass
Philip Channells and Kyra Kimpton, Youth Ensemble dancer with Restless Theatre, will share their experiences and lead a practical masterclass. The masterclass is suitable for people with some dance experience interested in developing an awareness of improvisation techniques to inform the beginnings of creating new work.
When: 8 July 2011 Forum 9:30am-2:00pm Master class 2:30pm - 5:30pm
Where: Track 12, Carriageworks, 245 Wilson Street, Eveleigh NSW
Cost: $50 or $40 concession, includes morning and afternoon tea and lunch
