Speaker & Delegate Feedback Summary

A Different Light Theatre Company, NZ
Feedback from conference delegates and speakers was collected during the conference via a written survey and post conference via an online survey. Overall feedback was very good with 87% indicating that the overall program was above average to excellent and 94.6% of delegates indicating that their reason for attending the conference was satisfied.
"The conference improved both my knowledge and skill, gave me the chance to network, and I was inspired by the performances, the debate and the performance work I saw in seminars." Conference Delegate
35% of the speakers and 16% of delegates were people with a disability bringing the total representation to 21%. People who work in the arts and disability sectors was the largest group represented at the conference. Although these statistics indicate that the conference met it’s target audience, there is still room to improve with regards to reaching people with a disability particularly artists, those from non English speaking and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
"First time that I have felt all the players from across government, arts and disability sectors and most importantly artists with disabilities, had a dedicated opportunity to progress critical thinking and discussion as to the contemporary Australian Arts and disability environment and contribute to the development of strategies to address contemporary needs of the sector. Fantastic."
Conference Speaker
Venue and general access rated well with 62.7% of the delegates and 55.3% speakers indicating a high level of satisfaction in relation to venue access and 92% of delegates and 63% of speakers indicated that they were satisfied with the additional access provisions made.
Although the above data indicates a positive response to access there was also some strong negative feedback received mostly from the speakers via the post conference online survey. This feedback indicated some dissatisfaction with the venue, lack of consultation with people with a disability and that all sessions should have been Auslan interpreted.
Accessible Arts acknowledges that the event was not 100% accessible. The team worked hard towards providing an accessible event within the constraints of budget, venue choice and internal capacity. Accessible Arts will use this feedback to strive towards providing 100% accessible events in the future, with the aim of being a leader and a role model.
