KEY RESULT AREA

ADVOCACY

GOAL: To be an effective advocate for change for people with disability in the arts and cultural life in NSW.

OBJECTIVE: Greater access, representation and opportunities for people with a disability as audience members, participants and administrators in the arts and in cultural activities.

a) Advocate for full access for audience members at arts and cultural events at a government and strategic level.

b) Support the development of creative opportunities for people with disability to partiipate at all levels of artistic practice.

  • Advocate for relevant Government agencies to support access to the arts for people with a disability.
  • Undertake key research to inform the development of Accessible Arts policies and programs.
  • Support NSW cultural institutions and major performing arts companies to review and or develop disability access strategies.
  • Develop partnerships with major arts events as a model to increasing access to mainstream arts program.
  • Assist venue managers and ticketing agencies to provide improved access.
  • Advocate employment strategies that enable people with disability to work in the arts.
  • Support and foster strategic initiatives to further develop arts and disability practice in NSW.
  • Create opportunities for people with disabilities to develop their creative abilities.
INFORMATION

GOAL: To be recognised as the leading source of information relating to arts and disability in NSW.

OBJECTIVE: Greater awareness and development of opportunities and networks leading to increased access and participation in the arts by people with disability.

  • Promote Accessible Arts widely to ensure awareness of our services and recognition of the organisation.
  • Market Accessible Arts programs and partnerships professionally.
  • Develop and provide materials and information to enable organisations to provide good access to audiences.
  • Provide an appropriate and responsive information service to our stakeholders.
  • Survey the stakeholders annually to ascertain their needs.
EDUCATION

GOAL: To provide the most relevant and current training and educational resources to the arts and the disability sectors in response to identified needs.

OBJECTIVE: Knowledgeable and skilled arts and disability sectors enabling access to greater participation in and access to the arts for people with a disability.

  • Facilitate the development of programs that meet the identified training needs of disability arts workers.
  • Facilitate the development of arts education and training for people with disability.
  • Provide training to enable people with disability to access the arts.

Accessible Arts is committed to working according to the following operating principles:
  • People with disability should not be homogenised as they and their disabilities are as diverse as those of any group.
  • Accessible Arts will consult with the disability community when developing policies and providing guidance to other stakeholders.
  • Where Accessible Arts initiates new and fosters existing partnerships Accessible Arts will operate as the project partner rather than the project leader.
  • Accessible Arts will consider auspicing a project where the aims of the project are in line with those of Accessible Arts.
  • All of Accessible Arts' services and projects will include opportunities for people with disability to represent themselves.
  • Systemic change must be integral to all aspects of Accessible Arts' work.
  • Work with members of the disability community to ensure representation and leadership relating to the work of Accessible Arts.
